21 Lessons, 21 Countries, 21 years old
It's the BIG 2-1, and let me tell you, I have been anticipating for this moment for a long time. In the sense that I am stoked for happy hour and beers at the Fremont Brewery, but more so to finally publish this blog entry - a reflection of what I have learned and how I have grown throughout the years.
Entering this new year, my goal was to hit 21 countries before I turn 21. This resulted with an empty bank account, but hey, travel has taught me A LOT about the world, and most importantly, about myself and my relationship with others. So here are 21 lessons I have learned through my 21 years of life while experiencing 21 countries.
The importance of intentionality.
Genuine curiosity can take you far.
The surprisingly wonderful feeling of becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Relationships are a two-way street. Invest your time into people who also value you.
If you want something, you’ll find a way to make it happen.
As much as family may drive you crazy, they will always be there for you.
Life is not a linear path.
There can be good in every bad situation.
Your happiness can be defined by how you choose to react to unexpected situations.
Don’t doubt the small and/or large impact you can have on others.
The best decisions are made from not overthinking.
You need to love yourself before you can love others.
Life is too short to not take risks and to follow your natural inhibition.
Be a better listener than a speaker.
Live in the moment.
Seattle will always have the best coffee scene.
Don’t ever feel guilty for prioritizing YOU
The first step toward personal growth is to welcome vulnerability.
It’s okay to be sad and to feel lonely.
Failure can be a blessing in disguise.
When life is falling apart, remember to take a step back and recognize all the wonderful things you are thankful for.
Today, my heart has been feeling insanely full. I am thankful for all the opportunities I have experienced. More importantly, I am beyond fortunate for all the wonderful friends and family who constantly challenge me out of my comfort zone and support me through all my adventures.
College has been a crazy rollercoaster of ups and downs. But, with perseverance and a mentality to find good in every situation, I have discovered my passions, communities, and friendships within Seattle and all over the world. So here's to living in the moment and embracing all the beauty that life has to offer.
